Wood Fuel Pellets have unique advantages over any other solid fuel. The main advantage wood pellets have is that they burn more cleanly and have higher BTUs per cubic foot than corn, cordwood, or wood chips. In addition, premium hardwood pellets create very little ash when burned. For instance, a 40 lb. bag of pellets only creates about two tablespoons of ash. They are much easier to store than wood and have low relative emissions compared to a wood stove or fireplace. All of these advantages make wood pellets extremely environmentally friendly and count as an excellent alternative fuel source.

What are the benefits of corn as a fuel source? Corn is abundant, rapidly renewable, and produces heat at less cost than other fuel sources, including wood, heating oil, natural gas, or electricity. And because it's grown in the USA, every BTU of heat produced with corn is a BTU for which we aren't dependent on foreign sources of energy.
What equipment do I need in order to burn corn? A corn-capable pellet stove is required to burn corn
Can corn be burned in my wood-pellet stove? Some stoves are made strictly for corn, some strictly for wood pellets, and some are dual-fuel, meaning that they will burn either corn or wood. You can learn your stove's capabilities by checking your operator's manual or contacting the manufacturer of the stove.
What does corn cost? It varies, depending on your location, as well as fluctuations in the grain markets. Fuel corn is a low-cost commodity compared to other fuels; if shipped in smaller quantities, the cost of shipping, per unit, would skyrocket -- with the result that, rather than being a cheap fuel, it would become an overpriced fuel. We are constantly monitoring the national corn market and related transportation costs in an effort to bring our customer base a high quality product at the lowest prices. Our supplier brings corn from the Midwest by the railroad car. Purchasing fuel corn this way keeps your cost down -- for use in your own stove or furnace.
What are the characteristics of your corn? Our corn is Grade #1 double cleaned, yellow corn, with 14% (or lower) moisture content. It arrives packaged in bags for convenient storage and handling, 50 lbs. per bag. (A bushel of corn is 56 lbs.; we don't package a bushel per bag because that's more than most people want to lift.)
Where could I store my supply of corn pellets? A garage, shed, enclosed porch You could split a semi load with a friend who also has a single car garage to spare. Remember that this storage space is needed only during the cold-weather portion of the year.
Could I buy corn directly from a farm instead? You could if corn is grown in your region, but there are various issues involved that make direct farm sourcing an expensive and impractical option for most fuel corn users. The greatest drawbacks involve the suitability of the corn, and the time, labor and transportation costs involved in obtaining it in a form that will work in your stove. Corn pellet stoves require corn that has been cleaned to remove broken kernels and foreign matter. All bin-run corn on the farm contains substantial amounts of foreign matter including pieces of corncobs, stalks, leaves and smaller chaff. This material, as well as broken kernels, will clog your stove's feed mechanism and must be removed before use. To do this without a commercial grain-cleaning machine (by hand) is extremely time consuming, and operators of commercial cleaning machines require quantities of hundreds (or, in some cases, thousands) of bushels at a time. Moisture content is critical for proper burning, and may be unknown for bin-run corn. Unless you have the means to handle multi-ton shipments, the cost of fuel for your vehicle to make multiple small-load trips to pick up bin-run corn can easily negate potential savings. And then there's the time requirement. Making repeated trips to pick up relatively small quantities of corn (after ascertaining that it's suitable as fuel), then cleaning it and packaging it conveniently for storage, takes a lot of time. If you assign even a paltry value to your time, this becomes an extremely expensive way to obtain fuel corn.
